How temperature affects range
Driving your EV in hot or cold weather can impact the range you get from the battery. In temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C, you may notice a significant reduction in range, which is completely normal. This is due to the battery cell chemistry, which affects energy availability, especially in the cold.
Maximising range
To help manage the effects of extreme weather, consider pre-conditioning your car while it's still plugged in, and use features such as the heated seats instead of the cabin heater to conserve energy. With these strategies, you can optimise your EV's performance in any weather.
Precondition the interior
Heat or cool your vehicle interior using electricity from the charger while it's still plugged in, instead of from the batteryHybrid and electric Range2. This limits battery use when you're on the go, reducing the impact on your driving range.
