How do I start or stop a charge session for my Ford electric vehicle?

You can control your charging session with the FordPass® App or Public Charging App on your vehicle's touchscreen.

Starting and Stopping a Charging Session

Select from the options below to learn how to start and stop a charge session for your Ford electric vehicle (EV):

Using the Public Charging App (in-vehicle)

To start and stop a session at an in-network charger using the Public Charging App:

  1. Select the Home button on your vehicle's touchscreen.
  2. Tap Public Charging.
  3. Select the charger location.
    • If you are greater than 50 meters away, tap the navigation button for directions to the charger. Tap I'm Here Now when you arrive.
    • If you are less than 50 meters away, go to the next step.
  4. Match the charger and stall number to the one on your vehicle's screen.
  5. Select Activate.
  6. Plug in the charger once the "Activate" button changes to "Plug In".
  7. Press the Stop button next to your EV's charge port.
  8. Unplug the charger once the "Stop" button changes to "Unplug".

Note: Not applicable for Explorer or Capri.

Using the FordPass App 4.X

To start and stop a session at an in-network charger using the FordPass App:

  1. Log in to FordPass.
  2. Tap View Chargers.
  3. Match the charger and stall number to the one on FordPass.
  4. Tap Activate.
  5. Plug in your EV once the charger indicates that it is ready.
  6. Tap Stop once your EV reaches the desired charge level. 
  7. Unplug the charging cord once the station indicates the session is over.

Note: Not applicable for Explorer or Capri.

Using the FordPass App 5.X

To start and stop a session at an in-network charger with the FordPass App:

  1. Open FordPass and tap Energy.
  2. Select Charge Station, under the Advanced section.
  3. Match the charger and stall number to the one on FordPass.
  4. Plug in your EV once the charger indicates that it is ready.
  5. Tap Activate. It may take up to 2 minutes for your charging session to begin.
  6. Plug in your EV once the charger indicates that it is ready.
  7. Press the Stop button next to your EV's charge port.
  8. Unplug the charging cord once the station indicates the session is over.

Note: Not applicable for Explorer or Capri.

Note: FordPass offers additional options for stopping your charging session for AC Slow Charging locations:

  • Charging at a Saved Location: Tap Stop on the FordPass Vehicle screen or Energy screen.
  • Charging at a Not Saved Location: Tap Stop on the FordPass Vehicle screen.
