What are Timing Belts (Cambelts) and Timing Chains?
Timing belts (also known as Cambelts) and timing chains perform the same function. They are driven by the crankshaft and drive the camshafts which control the valves. This allows the vehicle's engine to work in close synchronisation.
A timing belt is typically rubber with other fibres. A timing chain is made of metal and runs through the inside the engine so it can be lubricated by engine oil. Timing belts tend to need changing sooner than timing chains due to the chain having more durability.
