What have you announced?

Ford is introducing plug-in hybrid technology to the mid-size truck segment with its first-ever Ranger PHEV, and the global debut in Hannover showcases the limited-run Stormtrak launch edition

What are the timelines? Which markets will be the first to get Ranger PHEV?

Production is due to start in 2025, with first deliveries to customers in the spring. The Ranger PHEV will first be available for customers in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other markets may follow.

Where will Ranger PHEV be manufactured?

The Ranger PHEV will be manufactured at our Silverton Plant in South Africa.

Why are you launching a Ranger PHEV and not a BEV?

Ranger PHEV represents the best of both worlds, combining zero-emission driving capability whilst retaining all the core next-gen Ranger towing, off-road and payload capabilities that our customers tell us they need for both work and play.  We believe in giving customers the “power of choice” as they transition to electrified vehicles.Section Body

When can customers in Europe order Ranger PHEV?

Order books for Ranger PHEV are now open in Germany. Order books for Ranger PHEV in other European markets are scheduled to be opened during November, and we will confirm pricing for those markets at that time.

What is the Ranger PHEV powertrain?

Ranger PHEV combines a 2.3-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol engine with an electric propulsion system. A 75kW EV motor is integrated as part of the Modular Hybrid Transmission, and provides additional torque to augment towing, hauling and vehicle performance.Section Body

What will be the pure EV driving range and towing capacity of Ranger PHEV?

Ranger PHEV will deliver over 45 km pure electric driving range – the exact range will be confirmed shortly when final homologation testing has been completed. It will also have a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg in EV Auto, EV Later and EV Charge modes..

Why did you choose a diesel powertrain?

The 2.3-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol engine with an electric motor and rechargeable battery technology is best suited to providing customers with zero-tailpipe emission driving when needed, in addition to the important off-road, towing and payload capabilities of the next-generation Ranger.

What Pro Power Onboard options are available?

In Europe, customers can select Pro Power on board as an option with a choice of two different power outputs – 2.3kW or 6.9kW.   The vehicle features three power outlets – two in the load box and one in the cabin.  On the 6.9kW version, 3.45kW can be drawn from a single load box socket or a total of 6.9kW across both loadbox sockets; the cabin socket output is limited to 2.3kW.

What is the payload and towing capacity of Ranger PHEV?

Ranger PHEV models will offer a payload of up to 1-tonne, and a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.

Does the battery pack reduse the load volume of the pickup bed?

The Ranger PHEV features a loadbox floor that has been raised by 31mm to package the High Voltage Battery, which has a minimal impact on the useable loadbox area.

What derivatives will be available for Ranger PHEV?

In Europe the PHEV will be available as XLT, Wildtrak, and during the launch period, the Stormtrak edition

Does the Ranger PHEV have a higher GVM?

The Ranger PHEV has a GVM of 3,500kg, compared to 3,350kg for the ICE Ranger, reflecting the vehicle’s higher kerb mass.

What is the battery capacity of the Ranger PHEV?

Ranger PHEV has an 11.8kWh (useable) battery capacity.

What are the the CO2 benefits of Ranger PHEV?

During typical daily usage, and if the customer charges the vehicle regularly, Ranger PHEV will offer significant CO2 reduction while providing flexibility to meet customers’ requirements. We will share more precise details once final testing is complete.

Will Ranger PHEV have different EV drive modes?

Yes. Ranger PHEV will feature 4 EV drive modes

  • EV Auto – Auto EV is the default mode, and automatically starts the petrol engine when driver demands full performance, or the high voltage battery’s energy is depleted. This will be a good option for normal conditions for many drivers, and for towing and carrying loads. This is the Best of Both Worlds mode.

  • EV Now – EV Now provides an all-electric, tailpipe emissions free driving experience for over 45 km, by preventing engine start unless requested by the driver. This will be great for early morning silent starts, or for EU cities where green zones have been implemented.

  • EV Later – EV Later gives drivers the ability to save the energy in the high voltage battery for use later, such as entering a green zone or for camping or work

  • EV Charge – EV Charge mode increases the charging to the high voltage battery from the petrol engine to increase energy. A great mode for a driver who forgot to charge their car, or who needs to top up the battery for later use through the day.

Does Ranger PHEV have all the same off-road and ADAS feature as the Ranger?

Ranger Plug-In Hybrid also comes equipped with the Ranger’s proven four-wheel-drive capability (including the latest e-4WD system, dual range transfer box and rear locking differential), selectable drive modes and advanced driver safety and driver assist features. Plus, the addition of Pro Power on Board, a Pedestrian sounder for when it is in EV mode

Is the Ranger PHEV compatible with the integrated Ford Pro offering?

Yes, the Ranger PHEV is another example of our connected and electrified Ford Pro vehicle range in Europe, and customers will benefit from the Ford Pro platform of software, charging and service solutions to help simplify the transition to electrified vehicles.

Will Ranger PHEV be offered with specific Ford Pro charging solutions to support home or workplace charging?

Ford Pro has a range of charging solutions to support home, depot or public charging that Ranger PHEV customers can benefit from.
