There are 5 levels of automated driving. You probably already know about cruise control and lane keeping. We’re here to explain all the other parts you need to know about.

How does it work?

The 5 levels of automated driving

1. Driver assistance

At Level 1 the driver is in control of steering, acceleration and braking, while features like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control assist can help to reduce stress.

2. Advanced driver assistance

Level 2 is a driver assist system where you can stay in control while the system can handle steering, acceleration and braking, allowing you to focus on the road.

3. Conditional automation

Level 3 Automated Driving acts as a co-pilot, handling some driving, while you stay ready to assist with complex manoeuvres.

4. High automation

Level 4 Autonomous Driving enables vehicles to drive independently, with minimal human intervention, letting you divert your attention from the road.

5. Full automation

Level 5 Autonomous Driving is what most people envision autonomous driving to be—vehicles that drive entirely on their own, with no human input required.
